Who We Are
A husband and wife team dedicated to education-based saddle fitting and quality saddlery services.
Saddle Fitter & Master Saddler in Training
Lauren is a lifelong equestrian whose love of horses began at six years old when she convinced her mother to take her to her very first riding lesson. That early passion never faded. During college, she studied animal behavior, knowledge that would later prove invaluable in understanding the subtle ways horses communicate discomfort and imbalance. After graduation, she built and ran a successful dog training business, further honing her ability to read animal behavior and work with owners on solutions that benefit everyone involved.
Her path to saddlery began with leather working, where she discovered a deep passion for the craft of saddle construction and repair. Eager to learn from the best, Lauren has trained with both local saddlers and master saddlers in multiple factories across the United Kingdom. This dual experience gives her a unique perspective on both bespoke solo production and factory-style methods, always with a focus on the hands-on skills that define true craftsmanship.
Lauren has completed training with the Society of Master Saddlers and is currently working toward her International Academy of Saddle Fitters Stage 3 Professional Saddle Fitter Award. She is also a LANTRA certified Bit Fitter. This combination of credentials in animal behavior, saddle construction, saddle fitting, and bit fitting gives Lauren a rare and comprehensive understanding of how these elements work together to influence horse comfort and performance.

Operations & Client Services
Matt came to horses as an adult and quickly earned an affectionate nickname around the barn: the Mare Whisperer. There's something about his calm, patient presence that even the most opinionated mares seem to appreciate, and he's built genuine connections with every horse he works around.
With saddle fitting education from both Saddle Fit for Life and the Society of Master Saddlers, Matt brings more than just administrative skills to the business. His training gives him a deeper understanding of what clients and their horses actually need, which makes him far more effective when answering questions, scheduling appointments, and helping clients navigate their options. He is the voice behind most of your texts and emails, and he takes pride in making sure every interaction is helpful and informed.
Matt's background in logistics and customer service keeps the business running smoothly behind the scenes. When he's not managing schedules and communications, you'll find him in the workshop handling minor repairs and prep work. He has a particular talent for disassembly and cheerfully admits that his favorite part is taking saddles apart and handing them off to Lauren to put back together.

Always Learning
The world of saddle fitting and saddlery is always evolving, and we believe staying current is essential to serving our clients well. Lauren and Matt regularly travel to the United Kingdom and Ireland for advanced classes, professional networking, and hands-on bench time with Master Saddlers. These trips keep their skills sharp, expose them to new techniques and perspectives, and reinforce the connections that make this industry so rewarding. When you work with Mid Atlantic Saddlery, you're getting a team that never stops learning.
