About Us
Mid Atlantic Saddlery is owned and operated by two equestrians with extensive training and backgrounds in horses, biomechanics, pathophysiology, and saddle construction.
Lauren has been riding since she was 7 years old. She started out riding balanced seat and transitioned to dressage. She has groomed professionally, worked as a barn manager for a 56 horse lesson barn, and helped teach lessons. Lauren became interested in saddle and tack fitting when she studied animal behavior and cognition for her post graduate work. Her background in psychology and adult education made this a field that she loved and excelled at. With extensive time in training and travel all over Europe for learning and education, Lauren is a uniquely qualified saddler and saddle fitter who believes strongly in science, and the art of saddle fitting. As a behavior expert, Lauren sees and can quantify a horses comfort, and loves to help improve a horses movement and comfort by finding them the perfect saddle, bridle, and even bit.
Matt began is love of horses in college at Virginia Tech. He then had horses at home for many years. Lauren has taught him the joy of boarding and not having to do all the chores all the time. That freedom has permitted Mattto travel to the UK for Society of Master Saddler Qualified Saddle Fitting Courses, and to attend the Saddle Fit for Life training courses as well. Matthew rides 2 chestnut mares who love him.
Lauren and Matthew carry many brands of saddle, including Albion Saddlemakers, Bliss of London, Cavaletti Collection, Berney Brothers, Passier, and their own brand Defiant. To learn more about these brands what they all have to offer, please check out our Brands page for more information. Each of these brands specializes in something a little different, and most horses make their preferences very clear when given multiple options to try. Lauren and Matt have carefully selected the brands they sell and they work closely with their manufacturers to ensure that clients and horses get exactly what they want and need at a comfortable price point.
